KUALA LUMPUR, 24th August 2017 – The inaugural World Top Gourmet Awards 2017 which is organised by the World Gourmet Chapter of the International Business Federation has attracted over 50 entries, close to its target of maximum 100 entries. The culinary awards competition is dedicated to excellence in the hospitality, food and beverage industries. It not only honours restaurants recognised for their superior standards of food, service and dining experiences but also profiles unique eateries that thrive in neighbourhood hawker centres or niche locations. Such is the essence of the award as a purveyor of true gourmet experiences that can be inspired from any culinary genre.
According to the President of World Gourmet, Peggy Chong, the awards would be an impetus for the industry to stimulate growth and interest, while promoting cross learning, networking and economic opportunities amongst industry players.
This is part of the vision of the International Business Federation which was founded by Professor Dr Frederick Yap to promote and develop trade opportunities for the retail chains, food and beverage, travel and franchise industries within the 10 ASEAN countries, China, Taiwan, India, Korea, Japan and Australia.
Chong said, “To ensure the credibility and authenticity of the award submissions, visits are made to the nominees to evaluate the judging criteria in terms of their food quality, ambience, menu selection, value, service and overall experience. We seek to recognise outstanding establishments that meet the benchmarks of being innovative, creative, enterprising, outstanding, passionate and perform to international culinary standards.”
As part of the commitment to ensure the awards’ authenticity and credibility, Adjunct Professor Datuk Chef Wan Redzuawan Ismail has been appointed the official Ambassador. Sunway Group EXCO member, Puan Sri Datin Seri (Dr.) Susan Cheah, who is renowned for her passion for food and has often been invited to take her tastebuds on culinary adventures, is the patron.
The other members of the Award Secretariat comprise a selective line-up of personalities who include renowned food connoisseurs and prominent business influencers such as Kenneth Ang, Dato’ Simon Lim, Peter Phang, Dr Zyro Wong, Lily Chong, Yen Yong and Ooi Kok Tong.
An exquisite winners’ list featuring restaurants serving a variety of cuisine from around the world will be unveiled as part of the awards’ proceedings. Food aficionados will then be able to discover and savour their winning dining experiences and celebrate the love for great food, great ambience, great experience.”
To date, over 50 nominations have been received from all around the nation. Nominations will continue to be accepted for other categories, up to a limit of 100 establishments for this round. The closing date for nominations is on 15th September 2017 and the gala award recognition event will be held on 26th September 2017 in Berjaya Timesquare Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
This Chapter was established to serve as a platform to stimulate the economy by inciting growth of the food and beverage (F&B) sector as well as promote cross learning, networking, and economic opportunities for members.
